I’m constantly thinking stuff like “It makes no sense for them to be hearing the same musics as we do, it’s been centuries. But we also do listen to music from centuries ago. But they must have made some new musics since, and therefore also listen to those” BUT THEN the calling of sad student songs is too strong… alluring…
Nasce na Estrela o Mondego is a music about places and being dead I guess and it’s a link for the Brazilian lyrics website that keeps society rolling!

What Lies Beyond
Three very different looks at what lies beyond the veil of our own plane.
The Bright Side – ‘The Bright Side’ is the story of a girl named Emily who befriends Death. Together, they grow and learn and are forced to challenge everything they think they know…
Numb – Susan and Levi are childhood friends who have drifted apart. However Levi ends up in an accident that has something else behind it than just careless street crossing. Old strains are being brought up and something sinister is lurking around.
Ash in the Wind – Alexis Brangwyn is a disillusioned college student who has lost interest in the real world until she discovers a mysterious book about a local legend. Seemingly by fate, she gets a chance to investigate the site (with her crush!), but when the two end up lost in another reality, they ask themselves if they truly want to return home.

Panel 1: Filipa hands Angela a can of tuna.
Filipa: Still no activity around?
Angela: Nope.
Panel 2: The two girls, sitting on the floor, look at Miguel as he takes the veil off his head.
Filipa: Does he... Eat??
Angela: I don't know.
Miguel: I don't need to digest.
Panel 3: Filipa side-eyes Angela as she chews her tuna.
Filipa: Wow. Ok, freak.
Panel 4: A happy Filipa produces a very tiny portable radio.
Filipa: ANYWAAYYYYYSSSSSSS, Look what I found!!!!
Panels 5-6: Filipa tries to tune the radio. It is playing what appears to be a soccer match report and then a radionovella, both in Meditan spanish.
Filipa: Didn't think they could speak any faster...
Angela: Please get some music on.
Filipa: Tryyyyyinnnnnnnnng!! Ok, got it.
Panel 7: A medoly fills the air, as the trio stare at the fire. Miguel is sitting in the exact same position as Angela. Filipa adjusts the dirty bedsheets.
Radio: SE OUVIRES DIZER ALGUM DIA | QUE UM ESTUDANTE MORREU | SE OUVIRES -----
Radio: REZA-LHE UMA AVÉ MARIA | REZA-LHE UMA AVÉ MARIA | QUE ESSE ESTUDANTE SOU EU | QUE ESSE ESTUDANTE SOU EU
Sad student songs are so not an American cultural feature. Or, at least not one now but may have been almost a century ago.
It’s about time to find out if they were ever a thing, and if so, have them make a come back. If they weren’t, time to get those students sad and poetic
Yeah, I may need better than the internet for this. Though from looking at the idea elsewhere it seems to be a form of folk music so it may be hard to parse. Since so much of US schooling is either schools mostly for the elite and religious until the mid 1800’s and then you get a rise in schools coinciding with other musical movements here. So…To the time machine!
